Don Scalzoprotection against corrosion
I have used coal tar epoxy, not expensive, easy to apply, and proven as a coating to resist corrosion. I think for battery boxes etc. it would be hard to beat!

Al BentonHi Don:
Can this be sanded and painted or is the usage inside (only) such as a battery compartment.
Where do you purchase such and does it come pre-mixed.
Al

Shadow manHow about sprayed or painted on truck bed liner like rhino lining or something similar?

Ed ChevalierI used spray on truck bed liner on my battery box. It gives a tough durable coating for about $6 a can.

Don ScalzoI purchased the coal tar epoxy at a distributor for fiberglass & resins in Sarasota. It dries hard, but I beleive it remains somewhat flexable. I painted an aluminum fuel tank in my boat that had leaked from electrolosis. I gave three coats when the coat previous was slightly tacky I applied another coat. It is a 2 part mix, and is easy to work with. plenty of working time.

Jim and TereDid you wire brush the rust off of battery box & then apply epoxy or did you use a spray on rust inhibitor that turns to a primer that you can then paint or epoxy?

RustyDon probably posting here anymore - his wife took of with the new motorhome.
It's always best to clean off as much of the rust as possible, then treat with a phosphate-based primer (names like Ospho or Phos-go - it's a watery green liquid), which chemically reacts with the remaining rust. I coat with 2 or 3 coats of cold galvanizing spray, then overcoat.
