I would drill a small hole almost underneath each spider and shoot a little Kroil or PB Blaster in it every other day or so. It might help getting things apart later. You have a lot to gain and very little to lose.

keep in mind that alot of aftermarket ladders are a 2 piece design... I took my 2 piece one down and had one custom mfg to my exact specs - came out really nice and it is one piece.
