No more tail lights !!!

I have talked with the manufacturer of this tail light and they have told me that they do not make the light assembly or the lenses anymore. The President of the company ATC from Ohio was helpful in suppling the distributors which we called to find existing stock and there is none. So if any of you custom car guys can help us that would be neat.

Now this unit is 6 x 17.5. The closest replacement was 6 x 12. And, it was an inset model which this is a flush model. As we all know these lenses turn purple so folks want to replace them and of course, there is going to be breakage.

Never fear. billh will figure out how to make the replacement units from acorns and al foil. Probably be half the cost and twice as effective too. :-)

LOL, Ron.

But not quite. No acorns yet. However, I have been successful in removing the face of a lens on a big belt sander, leaving only the mounting flange, and gluing another face on it. Old and non-complying motorcycles make you do things like that. I have even assembled lenses out of sheet plexiglass and glued a new face(cut and sanded to the proper size) on them. It is better if you paint the sides black to cover the glue joints.

Ever bought a Japanese motorcycle lens? That will drive you to make your own.

I thought that a milled aluminum plate, chrome plated with 2 in little squares with those brite LED's Or how about three of those old Pontiac missile tip lights. Ya there you go. OK guys get to it.... We need two reds and a clear in the middle and it needs to cover 6 x 17.5.

Should be no problem, right??

I hate to admit it, but yes I have bought a number of Jap'nse lenses. Both red and amber and they are expensive. :-)

I like Dave's LED idea. Get on it billh....
