Danny ZCoolant change question
Doing a thorough flush and change of the coolant system, and got to wondering if there is any benefit to using distilled water as opposed to tap water to fill the radiator. I'm using Peak antifreeze and Barsleak waterpump lubricator sealant as per my wrenches recommendation, and I figure if 69 cents a gallon for distilled will do anything beneficial, I'll spring for it.

Do it. All water is different, but distilled is mineral-free. Every well where I grew up was different, and some radiators were OK with well water and some were awful. But, everyone who used distilled water had longer radiator life between rodouts or muriatic flushes.
Pulling a Barth radiator is no fun.

RustyAgree - when I worked on Mercedes, we would frequently find the cast aluminum impeller badly eroded from particles in the coolant.
When I resurrected my Ford diesel van, I got a cup of crud from the block.
I've used only distilled water in my cooling systems for forty years.

Danny ZFinally finished the coolant change. Drain, fill, run, repeat until water is clear, about 5 times, then drained and filled with a gallon of anti freeze and about 2-3 gallons distilled water. Haven't found the water pump lubricant my wrench suggested but I'll add it when I find it. He recommended Bars-Leak, but all I could find from them was stop leak, not WP lubricant. Anyway, no leaks running nice and cool, ready for some fall Barthin'.
