Greetings, my wife and I are seriously considering buying a 73’ Barth 25’. We will be inspecting it this week. Anything in particular with this brand or model we should look at? Also it is listed as a Ford 390 motor ( which I’m ok with ) but everything I’ve seen so far shows that year with a Chevy 454. So was a Ford drivetrain an option or was it swapped out later in its life.

Although i have never seen a Ford of that year does mean it could exist. You should get the vin # to get info on chassis. Have seen 1977 460 class C. and I know they made Dodge chassis Barth"s. Being a 73 it could have early windsheids. They are almost impossible to find. 390 with c6 should be a good drive train. I bet the ford was not swapped into gm chassis. there is a 460 John Deer chassis listed. and A few Dodge 440's.

Doorman, thanks for the info, I hope I do not sound stupid but once I know the VIN, how do I decode it?

Cheers

Doorman is very knowledgeable on Barth. I think Doorman has memorized the entire Barth website.
We all will help you with decoding the serial number and checking to see if it is already in our Data Tag list. Post the pictures on here. Set the size at 1024x768 pixels. I also think "medium" works from most cell phone cameras, if you have that as an option.
We are looking forward finding out what you may have found.

I remember some years ago looking at a Barth pusher with a Ford 460 in it. It was in Fort Mill, SC. I drove it and it was a real dog. Don't remember much else but my posts are somewhere on the site.

Where is the data plate normally located on a 1973 Barth?

Normally it located behind driver mounted on wall or cabinet. Might be hidden by curtain. Good luck. Any pic's or info would be appreciated.
