SUGAR heads north
Here's an update for those following our progress:
Left Bucerias yesterday morning, having planned to say 3-4 days but stayed a month! Tropical rain the past five days and we drove through a lot of it in the mountains. Driving in Bucerias one night Susie said "Watch out, there's a tree in the road."
Turned out someone had stuck a large branch into an open manhole to keep people from falling in. Most said just a safety precaution and that they would rather be wet and warm than dry and cold. Coming north had a 5 kilometer, 2 hour wait to cross a one lane bridge. Too much traffic, not enough roadway. Mex 15 only N/S route along the Pacific coast. Many trucks and buses.
Headed for Mazatlan but made it only to Esquinapa/Teacapan and Rancho Los Angeles where we had camped on the way down. (See earlier pics) Barth performing flawlessly, except for one windshield wiper, probably another bad ground. One sliding door latch jiggled loose and the aluminum screen door (Alumax) we would like to replace. Any suggestions? We're headed for Quartzite, hoping to arrive there the 23rd. There was much interest in the Barth in Bucerias and we referred at least six people to this web site with two interested wannabes and one former owner. Cheers to all and hope to see you somewhere down the road,
PS - At one of several check points yesterday, military, various govt departments, etc. a guy was fogging all the truck wheels passing through and when we reached the booth, the inspector asked, in perfect English, "Do you have fruit?" No, I said and drove through and Susie reminded me that we had a bushel of oranges in the car that he could have seen! So much for honesty.....Guess they were spraying for bugs. So we should be disinfected for the rest of our trip.

We're are re-entering slowly, first by coming on out to Quartzite, and a very dirty, dusty, desert site for the Barth Rangers Rally. It's something that everyone should maybe do once and then decide if it's worth doing again. Each to his or her own...
Great to meet Shadowman and BillH in person as well as some other good Barth folks. More later.
