Yuma Parks and Boondocking
Since our Quartzsite/San Diego excursion was washed out we might try it again in Feb. With no rv show in Q Im thinking we may stay there only a day or so, then hit S-D for a week then back to Yuma for a week or so.
We'd stay on BLM land in Q. and likely rebook at Santee Lakes in S-D.
Have no idea about Yuma. I know there are lots of parks to choose from: ... any recommendations?
What about boondocking on BLM land ? What are the possibilities near Yuma ?
Suggestions appreciated.

There's lots of BLM stuff a few miles north of Yuma at Imperial Dam, but I can't remember exactly how to get there. Can't recommend any private RV parks, but there's a jillion of them. We've always stayed on private property with friends in the Foothills area.

You can also boondock near the new casino by Algadones in Ca. just before you get to Yuma.

Turn off at the Yuma Proving Grounds entrance on hiway 95 to get to the BLM lands at Imperial Dam.

We notice several Barth-ers go to Quartzite for the winters and we drove by the town several times but since we know nothing about it we would like someone to inform us -"Why Quartzite"? What are we missing?
Thanks

We would really be interested and appreciate any Quartzite info as well. We plan to be in the neighbourhood sometime before too long.

Depends on what you like. We have done the Q 3 times for 1-5 days and it is ok/different but we like the Foothills area east of Yuma much better for the winter.

I'll second Shadow man's opinion. we've spent a few days, several times near Quartzsite; twice at Barth Rangers rallies, twice at Desert Gold RV Resort a few miles East of Quartzsite. We boondocked at the rallies, had full hookups & good facilities at Desert Gold. There are several BLM campgrounds south of Q., some with water, restrooms, & showers, but no hookups.

Yuma is a major metropolis compared to Q., with many good parks & city conveniences close by. We, too, preferred the Foothills area.

Thank you men! With a couple of recommendations like that, and no specific event in Quartzite to addend, I think we'll be looking to drop anchor in the Yuma area and for sure scoping out the Foothills. I'm sure we'll also be trying to gain an understanding of the BLM action and some practical experience there too.

As an RV fan, ya gotta see it to believe it. Wish the weather had co-operated so we could have made it this year. We will be passing thru and stop for a day or two in Feb. to check out the few vendors who remain.
We haven't been able to get to Yumabefore so we are looking forward to exploring there too. Warmest winter weather in Az. is an attraction!

It has been a few years since we visited Quartzsite, the main attraction is the swap meet, flea market, rock show, RV show and RVs as far as you can see during Jan/Feb. In the summer you are alone. We bought a metal detector once at the flea market. You can get anything you think you might need and just visiting is fun too. But you got to be kind of a desert rat, most people dry camp.

Looks like a few Barthers are going to be in Yuma. We would host a get together if we can get all here at the same time. If not just stop by.

Don, when you guys get back to Az. from the frozen north, Big Grin let me know when you are coming to Yuma. Looks like a couple of people that we invited to stay with us for a while are unable to make it so we will probably have room if you still need a place to drop anchor. Smiler

Thanks so much! We are not sure when we are going yet. We have a daughter in Phoenix due to bring us a new grandchild in early March and so it all depends on how things go on that front first.
Will be in touch for sure if I get the greenlight from grandma!
