We left for AZ on 12/4 and the weather fought us most of the way. Lots of rain but me managed to dodge the snow and ice. We rolled into LHC on Tues so it was a 9 day trip. We did stop for 2 days in Deming, NM at Rock Hound State Park.

Here are the stats for the trip:

2385 miles
372.4 gals of gas
6.4 mpg
$1158.62 fuel costs

Here are a few shots from Rock Hound. We'll be heading to Quartzite in a few weeks.

One our favorite sites, We were there in October and try to stop there to and from the Texas Mile each March and October.

Still looking for a warmer place than CA for the winter, it has been very cold here.

good luck with your travels.

If you haven't tried it yet, the China Buffet down by the London Bridge is pretty good. In fact during our travels over the last 8 years it is the one that i compare all other Chinese places to, and so far none have matched it. Big Grin

So if we travel the same distance in our diesel pusher at about 9.3 mpg using the average of about $3.30 per gallon we have an extra $300 for the fun stuff, or upgrades.

Tom are you saying you are finding diesel for 3.30 a gallon? Or you saying gas is 3.30. Here in Minnesota we are at 3.99 for diesel and 3.16 for regular gas. Just checking?

Dana,

Looks like in nearby Owatonna you can save a good 10 cents/gal.

Here in Florida we have gas as low as $2.99 in the Tampa area and $3.61 for diesel. Orlando tends to be the worst area by far, I just saw two gas stations listed there at $5.89 for gas! I'll bet they're near the airport where unsuspecting tourists get nailed.

TIME TO MOVE OUT!

We have a little more room here in Western Florida. Just think, you can still tell everyone you live on the left-coast. Temps all this week expected to touch 80! Cool Taxes less than a tank of diesel. No mountains to cross unless you want to! All our borders with other countries have very large moats!

This was our first full year in Florida and I've come to the conclusion that Florida natives are about as tolerant of temperature changes as a gecko. I think in the worst summer heat we might have reached 93 with moderate humidity. It seemed when we have our windows and doors open, all our neighbors are hunkered in with the AC blasting. Perhaps my blood will thin, but it's pretty cool for this Maine born body to wear shorts and Tee shirts year round.

I used the local CITGO station prices as an example and they are probably lower than most interstate truck stops. But CITGO has 14,000 station nationwide and the current diesel price here is $3.28 with regular gas at $2.93. CITGO has a web locator that uses your location to map the nearest station. It also has an Ipad App for the same thing.

Just an FYI, Citgo is owned by the Gov't of Venezuela which is run by the Dictator Hugo Chavez who hates America. Yes, we are his biggest customer and he still openly hates us. I realize the individual franchises are privately owned, but I have boycotted Citgo for years due to the association and the fact that the franchise owners know who they are supporting.
