"thread drifts" are themselves instructive - like voice inflections in conversation. Now a bit of that sort of thing in a text is preferable to "no" as a text response (the Seattle Barth seller) and I say that as someone who dealt in antiques for 20 years which depends on lots of interaction because you want to buy and sell from those you actually like. So whatever you are comfortable with...talking or writing, just so a bit of communication takes place.
