I have a 22 year old 22 cu.ft. Amana bottom freezer reefer in the house. For the last ten years, I've been fighting condensation and the resultant rust (the door's insulation had gaps), and have finally capitulated - the bottom of the freezer door is flaking off onto the floor. I hated it from the beginning, but the ex insisted on that configuration.

Rather than get another crappy unit for the buyers of the house, I decided to get what I would eventually want at my place in GA.

So I researched for several hours online and picked 7 candidates in the 29-31 cu.ft. range.

However, my first stop was the local appliance dealer, having dealt with it for many years (and been very happy with the prices and service). He stocks units with 10-year warranties as well as others. I then checked the "usual suspects", Home Despot, Lowe's, h.h. gregg (yeah, I know, why?), and Best Buy. They stock GE's Adora line, which is noticeably tackier. None of their units came with more than a one-year warranty!

So I ended up with a GE 29.6 cu.ft. French door SS reefer. The best part is that due to a GE 4th of July sale (dealer had stocked up on sale items), it was less than any similar item at the other stores, and it's Made in the USA, and it's a GE factory warranty.

I posted this because there can be definite advantages to buying local.
