What was the original purpose for the rack by the door if anyone may know?

I'm not sure the original use but I use mine for a fire extinguisher. A good place with easy access (on the way out if needed.)

Although our rack had been removed by the PO, he told us it held the "blank" floor piece that you can place over the stairway preventing falling into the stairs. We have the "blank" piece, but quit using it at night when it just seem to be in the way leaning against the wall.
