bill hMeteor showers Aug 12-13
New research shows that one annual meteor shower produces more fireballs than any other - the Perseids. This year's Perseid peak is just around the corner on Aug. 12-13.

bill hA little more information from
EarthSkyCooke recommends looking on the nights of August 12 and 13 between the hours of 10:30 PM to 4:30 AM local time. EarthSky recommends adding the night of August 11, too. Before midnight the meteor rate will start out low, then increase as the night wears on, peaking before sunrise when the constellation Perseus is high in the sky.

RustyAfter midnight, Perseus will be low in the sky in the NE. It's not a very bright constellation, but the general area is good enough for the shower.

bill hIf anyone has an Android phone, Google Sky is pretty nifty. It senses the time, date, your location and which way you are pointing the phone.
Just hold up the phone and alternate looking at the sky and the phone. It even has a horizon line, which is useful only on level terrain, of course.
I believe there is something similar for iPhones.
Sort of a quickie planisphere.

RustyFor those clouded out (or what appears likely for me, fogged out), NASA will broadcast the shower
