In either case the idea is quite staggering.

So Rusty, if a large meteorite entered our atmosphere that consisted of, say, iron and ice; if the ice out-gassed as it boiled off from the side of the meteorite, why couldn't it spiral? Then it explodes as it super-heats?

or....a Russian missile!

The forward side of a meteor gets the hottest; at the speeds they hit the atmosphere (25-40Kmph) forward momentum would overpower any sideways forces. Because only the front is heated, there would be little radial force.

This phenomenon in the Norway photos is the first seen/known of its kind.

More here.

Hey Jack,

Your maple syrup was a big hit at the Hillsborough GTG. Cheri made some awesome pancakes, but they had to compete with Danny's awesome biscuits and gravy (SOS).

I speak for everyone there, thanks for the liquid gold!!!

Heard on the news a little bit ago that the Russians admitted they had a failed missile test at the time of the event over Norway.
