Next week, there's a total Lunar eclipse starting at 8:23 EST, a bit after the moon rises in most locales.

A lunar eclipse is when the Earth passes between the Sun and Moon, and blocks the light to the latter. Obviously, this doesn't require any special filters as does a Solar eclipse (where the Moon blocks the sun).

The whole evolution takes several hours from first contact to last contact.

Hey Rusty, did you get a good view? We had intermittent cloud cover and just about the time it started, it was gone, clouds the entire time. Oh Well, 2010?

Clouds rolled away at the last minute; I got about 50 shots, but due to a brain pfart, took a scope that barely allowed the moon to fit into the camera's frame. Some of the shots are decent, and I'll post here after I've processed a few.

We had somewhat clear skys after about 10:10, so we got to see a good view of the "Ring". Not the best ever but pretty cool just the same.
