Doug Smiley.....NEVER weld galvanized metal!
QUOTE:...........but NEVER weld galvanized metal!
The zinc atomizes and is very dangerous.
If you must use the stuff
grind away all traces of the coating at least 6 inches from the point of the weld
and then paint it when finished.
Better to buy the proper metal than die making a tv stand.

Steve VWThis is a sad reminder of what can happen from exposure to inhaled toxins. As a chem teacher for years I got numerous reminders of accidents over the years.
THINK ABOUT IT… IF YOU CAN SEE ANY SMOKE OR FUMES DO NOT INHALE THEM! Even simple dusts are hazardous, i.e. sawdust, flour, coal dust. Much worse is the toxic stuff from metal working, welding, and chemical fires, asbestos, etc. ALWAYS WEAR A FILTER MASK if you see smoke or dust.
Also be aware that even the best filter masks will NOT protect you from inhaled toxic GASES… carbon monoxide, combustion products, solvents, cyanide gases, etc.
Best to have a fresh air mask with outside air source. PLEASE be careful!
