I need to repaint my roof. Anyone have a specific kind of coating to recommend? Thanks.

Steve VWSeveral here have used Anvil products. Try a search. Jim and Tere did a nice writup a while back.
https://www.barthmobile.com/eve...=242101081#242101081I am also interested, I have not done this yet and it is time for a recoat on 86Barth.
I recoated mine with mine with a dicor elastomeric coating. Did not hold up well and over the last 2 years as I prepped to recoat but the weather never got right. I basically removed it all. The only place and remained was under the solar panels. I have no inside space to do it.
I took some days off for a staycation and the weather cooperated. Dry, sunny and 65 for a couple days. I bought a 5 gallon pail of Anvil 400 from Sherwin Williams. I had to explain to them that they were a seller of Anvil... I purchased a couple years back and it was fine, kept in basement of house. I put on 2 coats as thick as I could and only used a little over 1/2. I plan to use the rest on my ice house and monster trailer.
I know Nick also used Anvil but got 450 because it replaced 400 on Ugly Betty. Jim and Tere have a great write up with pictures.

L78steveI used Anvil and its holding up great. Did four coats last year and will do 1 more coat this year.
The roof was overdue when I got the Coach last Spring.

Duane88I am curious why folks coat the roof of an aluminum RV? Mine is also coated with an older product of asphalt base. It has cracked and hardened over the years, a previous owner has placed aluminum tape over a large part of the roof and base coating and it has not weathered well either. I would like to take the roof back to paint, but presently have repaired it with flex seal as shown on TV, seems to have stopped the leaks for now anyway. I assume only the seams leak or are there other problems? Thanks Duane

Steve VWThe use of roof coatings I believe was to prevent leaks around rivets and through seams.
If the construction was rigid enough and the seams had two rows of staggered rivets like aircraft the sealant would not be necessary.
Given the less robust design and flexing of the typical coach, there would be leakage eventually, especially those with flat roofs. Worse yet, some roofs sag over time and water will puddle on top. A great way to find the smallest leak. Also needed around vents, ACs, etc.
Asphalt base would be my last choice. Gets brittle. I would go with some sort of elastomeric coating.
Great argument for inside storage...

Duane88Thanks Steve, we have had tons of rain in the last few days and I identified a couple more leaks. I may have to redo the whole roof sooner than I wanted. If this rain ever stops I will go look up there again and see if I can determine where the leaks originate, with all that aluminum tape it is hard to find.
