Jim and TereWhen I had a 1954 XK120 in Pennsylvania, I used a block heater in the winter since I didn't have a garage. The engine sure did seem to like it as did the batteries. Here in Tennessee, my vehicles are in a garage that has foam insulation on the walls and ceilings. When it's 20 degrees outside, it's 30 degrees inside. I usually wait about 30 to 60 seconds before I take off. But, I think the key to what Rusty said is "Drive moderately". Regardless of whether you have a modern or old fashioned car, be nice to it and it will be nice to you.
