The other day as I did a walk around while the engine was running I heard air escaping in the generator compartment. I opened the compartment and air was escaping from here.

When I checked it later after driving for about and hour it had quit. My question is, what is this and is this normal?

That would be a vacuum generator.

Of course, if you don't know what it is you would never be able to search for it in our data base. So, here's the link to many pages about that...

The red ones are your air lines they fill your air tanks and they crack with age..they can be replaced with water lines to your ice maker csi the insert that goes into the 1/4 inch clear plastick lines and a compression coupler!,,,,,,,, do not over tighten them to tighten them too tight. Tighten them in watter1/4 turn after it stops leaking good luck.
Lenny
Ps one of them runs your airhorne if yours does not work that could be the problem

I took that foolish thing off and put a brass plug in its place. I still get heat thru the heater and defroster.

Just "googled" the vacuum generator part number and they now seem to be available again for $45.

Is this a part that one should pick up before they go extinct again??
