R&R fuel gauge sensor
I have a 1990 34 ft. Barth with Gillig Chassis air supension, cat pusher diesel. My fuel gauge went to empty and stays there . tested the gauge its good. the tests show that the sender is bad or the wire came off the sending unit which I assume is on the top of the 100 gal tank. the tank is located in the middle of the coach just behind the front wheels. Is there an access panel in the floor- (under the carpet), or do I need to drain and drop the tank to change out the sending unit? the Fuel line and return line on located at the front of the tank ( on top ) with about 3 inches on clearance to the floor. with a mirror and flash light I can just see what may be the end of a square cut out with screws coming through the floor. I am hoping for a access panel. I would hate to tear up the carpet and then have to drop the tank in the end. Regards Brian Ward

Brian, Mine was a poor connection on the dash. You may find some useful information from this search. You need to be signed in to view the four pages in the list. Sorry I do not have the time to pinpoint the search exactly to your problem.

If you determine that it is a bad sender forget about the top location and install a new one in the side of the tank.
The side location is where Barth moved the senders for replacement simplicity.
You will have to pop a new hole in the tank middle center.
My 93 has the sender in this location.

Your talking about middle center at the top of the the side of the tank, correct..obviously, not in the middle of the side of the tank, equi-distant from all corners... Mechanic just clarifying what you said and satisfying my own weird interpretation..

Any pics/drawings of the new location?

Since Steve78 has not replied, I guessing he is talking about a new sender in the tank's side. You should not have to drop the tank for this work. I hope this helps you out Mike.

I am not so sure the sender in the side of the tank is a good idea, cutting a hole would be problematic. As the sender hole would be below the fuel when the tank is over 1/2 full leaks would be or could be a problem. Diesel probably a non issue but for gas, Hmmm.

I took my tank out to change the filler location from 1/2 way up the side of the tank to a top location. wasn't all that bad once I drained the tank.

filler location changed
