Vogy here, I have a 77 27' Barth. I need to check the timing but can't get a view of the harmonic balancer. Any ideas? 8 degrees BTDC sound right for my 454?

Can you get visual access of the balancer from under the coach?
If so then you can install a timing tape to the balancer ring and use a different cylinder for the timing light hook up that fires at the lower location.

Hard to see the marks from above for #1. Many RV 454s have another scale down below on the driver side. When using this scale you hook your timing light to #5 or #8. I use #5 because it is also on the driver side.

8 degrees BTDC is a good place to start. You might try even more advance. Use as much advance as you can without pinging on hills. With Thorley headers they recommend 12 BTDC. The more advance (without preignition) the better the power and mileage. Mechanic
