How do you set the ignition timing on a 77 Barth when you can't see the timing guage?
Vogy here, I have a 77 27' Barth. I need to check the timing but can't get a view of the harmonic balancer. Any ideas? 8 degrees BTDC sound right for my 454?

L78steveCan you get visual access of the balancer from under the coach?
If so then you can install a timing tape to the balancer ring and use a different cylinder for the timing light hook up that fires at the lower location.

Steve VWHard to see the marks from above for #1. Many RV 454s have another scale down below on the driver side. When using this scale you hook your timing light to #5 or #8. I use #5 because it is also on the driver side.

With Thorley headers they recommend 12 BTDC. The more advance (without preignition) the better the power and mileage.
