Im 100% new to Rvs, i found an 84 barth for sale and i just felt i had to have it. And was not informed of break or lack of breaks i should say. Was told only 39 of these made, making it impossible to find any parts especially rotors that i found completely cracked. Plus not knowing much about what kind of barth it is fully. I need someone who knows where parts are available or if im needing a whole new upgraded system. I don't know where to begin.
Thank you.

Welcome to the site! The is the place to find out about Barths.

Barth made aluminum trailers from 1964 until 1970. From 1970 until 1980 they made gas powered aluminum coaches on GM chassis. They were boxy shaped and were sometimes called toasters.

In 1980 they decided to expand their line. They made gas coaches called Euros with fiberglass front caps for a couple years, then returned to the all aluminum gas coaches called Regals. These were all GM chassis until 1988 when the longer coaches were built on the John Deere Oshkosh chassis with Ford drivelines. Regals were produced until 1994 with a few more units made from 1995 to late 1997, when Barth finlly went out of business.

In 1981 they began making diesel pushers. They purchased the last of the MCC coaches that were made out west, when MCC went out of business. These had fiberglass bodies, were sold for two years, and were referred to as "MCC by Barth." There were about 40 produced. From 1982 until 1994 they made diesel pushers called Regencies. From 1995 to 1998 they made coaches called Monarchs, almost all were diesel pushers with 8.3 Cummins engines on Spartan chassis. The early Regencies, like yours, were produced from 1982 until late 1986. These were built on the MCC chassis with Barth aluminum bodies. There were about 80 produced.

In late 1986 Barth switched to Gillig chassis with Caterpillar 3208 V8 diesels, or Spartan chassis with inline 6 cylinder 8.3 Cummins engines. From 1991 to 1994 Barth also made smaller diesel pushers called Breakaways, with 5.9 Cummins engines on Spartan chassis.

None of the Barth coaches were produced in great quantites. The early Regencies like yours were built on the MCC chassis with 8.2 GM V8 diesels. These are orphans among orphans. The MCC chassis had independent suspensions and were known for their superior ride qualities, but sadly, there are very few parts available for them. Likewise, the 8.2 Detroit diesels were prone to overheating and had numerous design problems. GM discontinued them around 1990. Some parts are available but getting harder to find.

Caterpillar discontinued the 3208 in the 90's but parts are still available. Cummins still makes and supports their inline 6 engines. Both Gillig and Spartan still make chassis and have parts available.

Good luck with your coach. Barth went out of business in 1994 with a short revival as Barth RSV from 1995 until early 1998. All factory support and sales vanished at that time. You can search this site to find what info we have here. As years go by it is more difficult to find much on these coaches.

If you are able to locate parts and or service for your engine and chassis, please share what you find. Your 8.2 engine is notorious for head gasket leakage problems, be VERY careful not to let it overheat.

I wish I could be more helpful. Good luck with your coach! Thumbs Up

There is a "Cap't Bob" name on the back of the coach. 10 or 12 years ago we had a Cap't Bob attend the Fla GTG. Might be his coach.

Good call. Hoagland did work on the MCCs some time back. I think he retired and his son was involved for a while. Not sure if they are still in the business. Good place to start.

I seem to recall one member who was trying to graft the entire front end of a later model Chevy truck to an MCC chassis. I don't recall if he ever reported on the project. I will see if I can find that.

This is one of the threads I was thinking of. A full front rebuild and great photos of rear suspension as well. Unfortunately the parts were from Hoaglands and may not be available any more.

Like Nick, I noticed the Capt. Bob sticker and remembered him from a Fl. GTG. His wife ran a lot. We took a group picture in front of his coach and it's posted somewhere but I can't find it. It might be able to tell us if this was the same coach. I seem to remember Capt. Bob putting it up for sale a few years after the GTG, and it was in Florida somewhere on the west coast.
