Breakaway Cummins fuel injection pump
Hello, does a 91 Breakaway have a VE44 or a P700 injection pump ?
we haven’t looked back there yet....

Should be a p7100 pump.

Well today we decided to change the valve cover gaskets and check things on the engine, we are replacing the top radiator hose and the small short hose that joins the after cooler intake with the turbo tube.

We also noticed that our Cummins have the VE44 fuel pump
and not the P7100, that’s fine with us because we have more experience with this type of fuel injection pump and I found my new fuel pin in my toolbox and changed it, will see how much better it performs and since we have it open we are going to install a EGT probe and gauge as well.

That is very interesting . All of the pictures I have seen of the Breakaway engines had the p7100 pump .

Sounds like you are having fun with the coach .

I think the VE44 kinda looked like a distributor. It had an advance system. The Bosch pump was fixed advance but seems to be the choice if you want more power. The first years of the Dodge Cummins used the VE44.

I drive a 93 Dodge D250 with the 12 V Cummins and it has the same fuel injection pump and have done some upgrades and tuning that now it runs and pulls like a Chevy Big Block.
I can hit 95 mph (not that I have done it) easy.
If we could only get a 5 Speed in the Barth ???

We've had two trucks with the ve pump . You can get some serious power out of them with little effort.

You can get an Allison 2000 in the same hole as the 545. I did it a few years ago. Do a search as I did do a write up on the conversion. Best thing I did to the Barth. Mine is the early 5 speed. 6 speed would never use unless I changed the 3.73 RE to a 4.11. I have run 85 a couple of times with RPMS left.

I'm leaning towards the Allison 2500 . It has a lower first and second gear as well as a lower reverse .

I think around 2000. It's the early one. Came out of a wrecked roll back with an IH 466 engine. The salvage yard bought it for the roll back and I got the transmission for $900 in about 2010. Had to buy a computer (I have an extra) and a TPS kit. Bolted right in. You do need to find one with a parking brake. The one off the 542 might fit but never tried it. Also need an SAE 3 bellhousing if memory serves me.

Apparently, this thread's issue of what injection pump a Breakaway has has not been resolved.
I speak definitely that my absolute stock Breakaway, with a build year/title year of '92, has a P7100 pump.
Does not appear "distributor"-like. Rather an inline bank, guessing approximately 14 inches long.
Interestingly, according to much of YouTube, the P7100 pumps were first used in Dodge Ram pick ups, second generation, which were introduced in build year '94 - TWO YEARS before mine was manufactured.
The P7100 is known for being very receptive to modification and thereby producing additional HP.
Could it have been that Barth wanted the "buildable" pump for their 18,000 pound Breakaways and Dodge obliged. I get 12-13 mpg - great selling point for Barth. But many would consider my rig underpowered. "Jacking" the pump would reduce the MPG.
Any Thoughts?

I thought we had the p7100 pump . Ed corrected me and said it is actually the predecessor to the p7100 . Apparently it is almost identical and uses many of the same parts . Might be the Bosch MW pump.
