Found my short. The heavy wire from the alternator wore thru and shorted to the engine block. So new cable and the alternator was shot, so that also got replaced.

Wow Gary could have been much worse. Hard thing to watch for. The wear is hidden behind the wire.

I agree, I should not have abbreviated that way. When written I thought that it looked odd .it was said and repeated as said. I apologize for offending ,truly
The title transmission specialist is much nicer.

Lulamay you didn't offend any one. Don't worry be happy! Dick was just voicing his dislike for mechanics who refer to themselves as Trany man. Good luck on the fixes. Please don't ever do retreads for tires.

They will want to total the 77. Parts are pretty much not existent. There are some parts from salvage but the aluminum is valuable scrap with no wait. You would have to find some one who loves vintage. Without pics it is hard to give advice. mnhunter@yahoo.com me pics and I could give you my 2 cents for what is worth. We all know what fun photobucket is. If the body isnt wrecked and just strafed you might leave the battle scars, Steel bumper could be straightened.

Thanks for that thanks for the support and I hope they don’t total it. It will be pretty sad! That Barth would have Ben better left in hibernation!

Got these sad photos... Frowner

I am hoping the damage is not structural and can be repaired. Mostly the corner and not the back wall so much.

I think the generator and storage compartment frames could be replaced, with new skins for the doors? The back corner may be more trouble but I think the frame is OK.

The other side looks great for a 77!

Good luck, nice coach.

Does not look great, what a shame it had to happen!

A sheet metal repair guy should be able to fix it, maybe not as nice as new but if you are willing to accept a bit less than perfect, I bet the repair will be less than the insurance payout and buy back,,,If you love it!!

Thanks, for the look at first I thought it looked pretty bad, but it is mostly the compartments. I’ll know more when I can take somewhere for a good look. Adjuster Monday

Why do they have so many different distributors for a 454 engine, I have yet to find one, that indicates it will work in a motor home chassis? Is there a difference or do they just over look the Motor Home chassis? Some will work in a stripped chassis some in a van. Help!!!

It is my belief that any Chevy distributor from a small block or big block from the late 70's until 1986 should work fine.

Unless i am missing something , they are interchangeable . The fact that it is in a motor home shouldn't change that.

In the old days before EPA most distributors were about the same. They had centrifugal advance with weights and springs as well as some vacuum advance.

In the late days of pre fuel injection carburetors they played with advance curves etc to get by the pollution standards. That is when they had to get real fussy about the "right" distributor to stay legal.

The pre EPA distributors should work well. They were set up to run right without compromising performance.

If you do not have the HEI electronic distributor by all means get one. Lose the coil, fatter plug wires too

In my 81 there were AIR pumps and all kinds of PVS valves, what year should I look for to get a pre-crap unit. If I replace mine due to this overheat I had on the way to Goshen. Do you mean lose the external or internal coil?

I meant external coil. I think you have the HEI with coil in th distributor cap. I replaced the one in the Regal with a Summit unit, worked fine. I will see if I can find which one I used.
