So I go out Tuesday to look at another Barth...the people left it open for me and I had a good look through...77...27'...with the wanted layout.Price is OK and everything is reasonable...for the age
I lift the engine cover and here is this orange engine....every other 454 seen by me is blue...at least since I was a kid.
I was told the engine was rebuilt 5 years ago but the dipstick tube is the right way not the Barth way.
Question...could there be NOS rebuilt oranges out there. I am driving this coach on Sunday and will probably move forward with the deal but I swear I have not seen an orange block engine since 1979.

Hello George
If the engine has been rebuilt the color means nothing. My 78 engine was orange and now after the rebuid it is black. Just my observation.

Years ago I had a '74 Suburban with an orange 454. Not sure it was original, but I also had a '73 pickup, orange 454 engine. I'm quite sure that one was original. Maybe they were all orange those days.
