While we are off over the Christmas Holidays I will be pulling the timing gear case to remedy an oil leak where the gear case attaches to the block at the lower motor mount bolts. This has been a thorn in my side for at least a couple of years after I discovered that the two 1/2" cap screws that go through the gear case had backed off, stretched or whatever. I tightened them which helped but it still has a small drip. There is also a small oil leak at the throttle shaft on the injection pump and the throttle lever has stripped out. I found a ReCon 450HP Marine injection pump for way less than I could have mine rebuilt so that will be going in too.
The camshaft has to come out so a good inspection after 180,000 miles is in order.

Gonna be an exciting week!

Happy New Year everyone!

Got the Barth to the shop and it's a no-go on the cam removal without butchering the rear bumper trim frame which I choose not to do. When spring comes around, I will drop the engine out of the bottom.

Hi Billy, I know that oil leak situation. I don't have a front cover leak but I do have a leak on the injection pump throttle shaft. I also have a leaky oil pan gasket but on the 5.9L in the Breakaway I have to take out the rear cross member.

I may try to get to all that later this summer.

You say the cam shaft has to come out? Why? I have adjusted the valve clearance every 50K miles and checked lift/duration, so far I don't see any appreciable wear of the cam.

I will remove the front cover later this summer to have a good look around and also install the KDP (Killer Dowel Pin) lock.

306,000 miles all is still well. Had the Allison trans MD3060 rebuilt as it was starting to shift funny and had a few breakouts shifting from 3rd to 4th. 14 upgrades plus software changes all is well.

in the middle of installing a QD8000 diesel now, should be done in a few weeks.

I should be in your area later this spring and hope to stop and see ya.

Belated Happy Holidays.
