This subject has been kicked around several times but I wanted to see if there was any new information.
The most likely replacement for a 750x16 tire is 235x85x16. But this tire is .6" wider than a 750x16 and probably would require spacers on the dually rear wheels. Next is 215x85x16 which is good on the width but not so good on the diameter, being 1.4" shorter and 30 revs per mile more than the 750x16. 225x85x16 would be great but you can't find them in a decent tire. So, what is best? Drive slower or put a 1" spacer in the duallys? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I did an internet search and discovered that the 2wd dually wheels were in fact different from the 4wd dually wheels . 235/85/16 will work on 4wd wheels but not on 2wd wheels . Rubbing was the issue . These were pre 99 models being discussed .

This would be on a P37 motor home chassis. My calculations say that a 3/4" spacer would make up the difference in the width.

I have 235/85/16 tires on my Glassnose and a p30 chassis, no rub or interference of any type. the previous owner had the same, I only replaced them due to age. I bought Thailand manufactured tires, because I thought I would never put enough miles on Nose to wear them out and they would expire from age like the last set. Been 2 years no problems. I think I have the original rims.

I wonder if different P37 chassis had different rear wheel spacing. The 235s worked on Duane's 25' Glassnose but not on Marvin and Doris' 25' Regal. Hmm?

Can only confirm the 235s started rubbing after 1500 miles. Uniroyal Laredo. No blowout, just returned to Raben in Evansville, they replaced them with 215s. Don't know what Jerrys experience was after.

Not sure Jim, the wheels must be the difference. They butt together, Benebob had his rubbing on the frame, he replaced the springs but that did not work. Bet he needed to use spacers to move them outboard.
Harold can you link the artical you mentioned about 2wd vrs 4wd wheels. Perhaps Nose has 4wd rims.

Next time under the Nose I'll measure the gap between the tires and see how close the inside tire is to the frame.

If spacers are used one then needs to change the lugs get longer ones, do not short change the nut engagement.

Another change to consider is disc vrs drum brakes, Nose has rear drum brakes and front disc.

It's a little ways down the thread , but they talk about the 2wd and 4wd wheels having different offsets .

"pre '99,ford never offered a 4wd dually pickup in any configuration.all were 2wd.
to get a 4x4 dually,you had to buy the incomplete vehicle (truck without a bed) aka,the cab and chassis.




ford offered a wide variety of dually rims over the years.as quick rule of thumb; the 2wd dually pickups had the close wheel offsets of 5" or 5.15" (or perhaps a mix of both.)



the 4wd c&c trucks had more rim offset,which gave more space between the tires.those were the 5.35" offset.
the pickups all got 215's and the c&c got the 235's.




many have claimed to run 235's just fine on dually 2wd trucks.this is because "some",not all,had wider offset's out back,while having narrower up front.a real mixed up mess over the years.while some 2wd trucks got all the 5" offset. "
