Dave or others,
i seem to remember a positive comment on here about brake buddy a while back. i'm still trying to decide on what to get. any further comments. i would like to install myself (mechanically challenged) and would want a breakaway and in use, alert. don't really care what system i end up with as long as it works (saves on coach brakes) and doesn't leave me needing Ft. Knox to buy it.
thanks
mike

I HAVE A BRAKE BUDDY ON MY 1990 32 FT.PUSHER I TOW A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEOKEE LAREDO . THE BRAKE BUDDY HAS THE BRAKE AWAY SYSTEM AND SIGNAL . DEPENDING ON SHIPPING - COST ABOUT $1200.00 . I COULD TELL RIGHT AWAY THE DIFFERENCE IN BRAKING DISTANCE ,ECT. BUT YOU MUST WATCH WHEN YOU INSTALL IT EACH TIME TO BLEED DOWN THE RESERVE AIR OR THE BRAKES WILL DRAG AS YOU TOW AND CATCH ON FIRE FROM OVER HEATING-- BAD PAST EXPERIENCE . IT IS EASY TO INSTALL IN YOUR TOW . BUT REMEMBER TO PUSH THE BLEED BUTTON THEN ALL WILL BE WILL . YOU CAN GO ON THE NET AND FIND THE COST FOR EACH ITEM YOU WANT TO HAVE-- PLUS SHIPPING.I AM HAPPY WITH IT -EVEN THOUGH I HAD A LEARNING PERIOD.BUT NOW FEEL SAFE .IT DOES TAKE UP SOME STORAGE SPACE BUT THERE IS NO CUTTING OF BRAKE LINES AND WIRING . SO THAT IS GOOD. HOPE THIS HELPS .I GOT LUCKY AND BOUGHT MINE FROM A GUY GETTING OUT OF FULL TIMING FOR $300.00 SO MAYBE YOU COULD COMB THE NET AND FIND A DEAL.--- FRED

Hi Ironside,

We had the Brake Buddy and it worked great. We just tow a Saturn SC2 which weighs around 47# so I figured I didn't need it. But, I did need a new brake job so I sold it on Ebay in about 2 days.

Camping World in Rogers, MN. I hate them. I hate them because every time I go in there it costs me $50. I have every conceivable kind of water regulator, sewer pipe, cup holder, paper plate holder. I have so much cr** from Camping World that I have a special shelf in the garage for it. Which is a real benefit when we are on the road.

Actually, I love CW. I just had a Fantastic Fan installed there for a $5 installation charge. They didn't even charge me to pull off the Maxx Air cover and put it back on. They didn't tell me that I had the wrong cover for the F'tastic Fan, (Bill H. alerted me to that).

Ironside, are you a Minnesotan or are you just passing through?

Dave, EVERY RV needs toad braking. Not only for safety, but for legality and liability protection.

In CA there is weight limit. It's 1500lb, so it hard to find a car that would fit it.

thanks all for the replies, please keep them comming if you have other comments, i am looking at the SMI breaking system now as it is carried by RV specialists in des moines near where i live. it is a vacume assisted system that works off the toad vacume.?
anyone know this system? comments?www.smibrake.com-
Dave i'm like you on campers world, they cost a bundle when i go there, usually things i could live without. i'm considering comming up to C.W. in rodgers for new airs, toad breaks and a king dome. we are remodeling the inside of the barth and almost have it totally boondocker ready. lots to do inside yet but its comming along. plan on doing quartzsite this winter but in a campground. still will be able to go out exploring on our own if we wish this way.
thanks dave and all for your help. it is invalueable. go barthmobile.com!!!!

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the kind words. As far as King Dome is concerned. I don't know if you are aware but they are made right here in St. Louis Park, MN. This is their web site http://www.kingcontrols.com/ . If you call them they will give you a number for the brother of the owner who sells warrentied rebuilds. Of course, you then have to have it installed your self. I tried getting CW to install a base plate I bought elsewhere and they wouldn't do it. So even with the big discount after paying for installtion it was a wash. If you can catch CW when they have those installation specials then that the best deal.

By the way, you have to drive by my house to get to CW, so give me an email. We'll have lunch or something. And, if you are staying overnight, I have my Barth parked next to the house plugged in, I even have cable TV out there and you are more than welcome...
