When I took the Barth in for new tires the other day, my friend who was following me said that my docking lights were on. I turned the panel switch from high to low and they went off. Is there a seperate switch to turn these off? The PO son told me that there was a power drain on the starting batteries. He always disconnected the starting batteries to avoid the problem. I have put on a battery disconnect for now. I am wondering if my switch is bad and if this may be the source of the drain. Could someone tell me how and when the docking lights are supposed to work. Also when the Dom switch is in the "On " position by the front door there would be spark when I hooked up the positive terminals of the starting batteries... no spark when it was in the "Off" position. Is there something that runs off of the starting batteries in the "On" positon? Thanks for the help.... Gerald

Gerald, I'm still learning my coach so I cant really be helpful as to your "ghost drain" but as far as the docking lights, mine have nothing to do with the headlight switch... They do have thier own switch in the dash and also come on by themselves when I shift into reverse....

My 28' Breakaway has a different power train, but there is a separate switch for the docking lights; on my panel, it's the only one unlabelled.

They come on when the switch is activated, regardless of shifter postion.

Thanks Rusty, I believe mine is the same, the docking light switch is right beside the defrost fan switch and between the switches it is labeled high and low... I was thinking there was a high and low for both the fan and docking lights. The docking lights evidently is just on and off although like you said it is unlabeled... thanks again... feel a little dumb now! Smiler

As far as the power drain goes - check your radio. The newer ones have quite a drain even in the off position. I had to put an inline switch in my TT because the radio would drain the batteris in about 3 or 4 weeks.

A couple more thoughts on power drain:

Do you have an ammeter that will read the drain? Or put a light bulb in series so that it glows to show the drain.

Have an assistant watch the meter or light while you take out fuses, one by one. If no assistant, run wires where you can see the light or meter. Keep track of which goes where. If pulling a fuse stops the drain, track it down. If not, look at unfused loads such as alternator, paralleling solenoid, etc.

I don't know your coach wiring, so I can only be general here.
