Found 1 Bilstein rear shock frozen and cut off at upper rod and still attached to bottom (roadside fix I guess); the upper mount stud missing also. The coach is a 92' breakaway ec-2000 Spartan chassis, it has a rd1500s41 Granning, rear air ride that was put on by ABC Wheel and Frame shop, in Escondido Ca. I'm trying to identify the shocks. I have the measurments off the shock on the other side. The measurments closely match the shock listed on the Bilstein site for an ec-2000 air ride 94-97 a b46-2068. Stickers on shock unreadable numbers stamped on the shocks don't cross p/n's. Granning has discontinued the rd1500s41 suspension - so the data is not availabale from them. Can I assume the shocks that were on the coach were correct (one cut off, one normal)? Can I assume the shocks listed on the Bilstein website are the correct ones and match the ones I have? These are the questons I pose. Headed out west next month trying to get it together!! Anyone with the same configuration? | ||

been on the phone with tyler and dan at spartan. Since it wasn't done by them, and it appears it was done without notification to them. they can only guess. I talked to dan last and that's how we came up with the b46-2068. It's still a guess but educated. I just wanted to put this out to the collective to see if anyone has had the same issue. | |||

Scott, Since the shocks job is a simple one of dampening, as long as you have the proper travel, mounting and piston size - I would be confident you have a shock within spec. This is not true with struts which have a spring rate, but shocks are a lot like tires in that they are not chassis specific in most instances. I would recommend a top name brand though. Bilstein is certainly one of them. We just replaced the shocks on our 93 Breakaway purchased from Spartan--- their price was about 70% of Camping World price for a Bilstein shock. So as Rusky says "their prices are competitive"! I would give you the Bilstein number but all I have here is the Spartan # for the Bilstein shock-- for ours the rear was 0346-SS5 Regards Bud 1993 Breakaway 36ft & 1977 20 ft Spartan: air ride and brakes & P32(?)
