My current ac subpanel that resides on the charger/inverter switched output contains a relay crammed into a corner. My suspicion is that it isolates ac neutral from ac ground when the output is from shore, and connects them when the switched output is from inverter. Or perhaps vice versa.

Has anyone encountered a similar relay and deciphered it's function, and is that function really needed?
