Today i purchased another barth. 1975 27 foot i believe. I've owned 2 other barths, a 76 30', and the one i shouldn't have sold, my 85 31' regal. Anyway...

I've owned more motorhomes than i can count at the moment, from a 76 minnie winnie to a 93 bounder. ALL of them had at least one coach battery. I am currently on my way back from Alabama where i purchased this one, working on it in a parking lot in Mississippi. I cannot find a coach battery. This barth sat for 16 years before previous owner purchased it, so I'm leaving the generator alone until i can service it properly, so I'm completely in the dark. Did this model really not come with a coach battery? I have a battery ready to go in the trunk of my car, but no place to install it.

Has anyone else run into this? Guess i know what the first project will be!

At the top of the steps there should be a lid that opens to the battery compartment. If you look under the coach behind the steps you should see the outside of the box. If it's there and there is no lid or hatch, someone has covered it over.

I was under it this morning installing an electric fuel pump, (starts like it's supposed to now!), and its definitely not around the steps. My wife and I looked all around the rear bath last night, looked in all the outside compartments, and inside cabinets. Still have not found one. I will look under the back as soon as i get the chance. Thanks for all of your replies.

Courage of youth? You mean young and dumb? At least this one isn't as far away as my 85. It was in stagecoach nevada! But once again, i will be working on it all the way home. The exhaust leaks are the worst. I am really tempted to find parts and a parking lot in Jackson Mississippi. Dash air worked for the first 30 minutes. I believe the power steering pump is trying to lock up. The brakes (what brakes?) are terrible. But at least it has new tires. Only 600 miles to go!

Honestly, if i could have found some other brand in any kind of condition for what i paid fot this barth, i might not have come so far. No, thats a lie. Terrible, a 45 year old barth is in better shape than most half its age. They really are worth a journey.

Did you find your coach battery box yet. My 76 like Danny's old coach was right behind the step. a lid is at floor level at top of steps. you should be able to trace cable from starter or gen.to it. I do have a false floor in rear closet that hold my 12v converter/charger.

The power steering and poor brakes may be related. On my Euro I had a power steering leak and if I let it get too low, the pump would squeal when turning the wheel, but more unnerving, the brakes would go away, a result of hydro-boost system, which somehow gets it's power from the power steering system. When I topped off the PS fluid, the brakes came back.

Turns out it wasn't the power steering at all. The dash air actually worked when i bought it, but it only lasted the first 100 miles. Then it locked up and snapped the belt. Its been quite an adventure. And we are only half way home.
