our cruise works until I press on gas or press resume. It has worked where if I'm getting ready to go up a hill, i press gas before hill to pick up speed to get up hill & once up hill it drops down to the cruising speed without having to reset. And my resume button doesn't work. How do I trouble shoot?

There should be an electrical connector about midway down the steering column. Try cleaning it.

Jim, try the connector as Rusty suggests. Is your cruise an aftermarket GM ARA unit? I have one I'm about to replace. It is still working, but..

Both the cruise and the speedo use cable drive from the trans. I've had trouble with the cables and the speedo varies about 5 mph. Decided to replace the speedo (and tach) with electronic units, to get rid of the need for the cables. This also allow an upgrade to full electronic cruise control (no cable drive and no vacuum servo)

When I get to the Keys and replace the unit, you are welcome to my old one.

Steve, a PO replaced the GM cruise control with a Dana unit. I sure do like the idea of an electronic one. What will you be getting? It would clean up the mess in the engine compartment. Right now, the newer Dana unit is in there along with its cables and stuff along with the old unit. Don't know why the old one is still there. It's probably hooked up to something someone didn't wand to undo.
Thanks for the offer. I'll talk to Tere to see if she wants your old one. We don't have a tach. Wish we did.

Hey you can have my old tach, too! It works but does not match the other gauges (replaced by PO) I decided to replace tach and speedo with matching new ones.

The new cruise is a Dakota Digital model. Generic aftermarket add on, but does have some provisions for adjustment (ie response rate) The old one surges and varies more than it needs to, I'm looking forward to the new one. I'll install it in the next couple weeks but I won't be able to test it until my return trip in April. I'll let you know what I get.
