The SOB was somewhere in between the VW Bus and DBarth. ROTFLMAO You would be SOS "Some other Steve" which also is your attitude(SOS) answering the call to help others in need! Tooling Along Thumbs Up

I believe that same SOB had him constantly aligning pulleys and reinstalling V Belts on the engine. Deadhorse not to beat a dead horse but that is why I love my Barth's!

Getting back to the topic ROTFLMAO
my Monarch has the center strip of glass with vertical rubber seals on each side. The rubber strips have a metal channel about 3/8" wide in the center. The metal strip is not visible outside, appears to be slightly taller than the glass so there is a slight overlap extending to the top and bottom perimeter rubber strip.
I suspect the center glass is installed in the rubber strips and the metal is pressed in after to secure the vertical rubber strip.

The primary center extrusion engulfs both windshields the center expander is tapped in to tighten the grip . I think the expander piece may be either metal or rubber. The expander area in the primary extrusion allows the inner flange to be squeezed and installed after the outer periphery seal is in place. the outer seal may also have an expander to be tapped in. MHO is the rubber is better it can be soaped and more easily tapped into position.

I think the difference I see is the Breakaway has a fiberglass "A" pillar and Windshield surround. The mating tang is much thicker than a metal tang would be. The drawing shows 1.2mm and on the Breakaway the fiberglass tang is at least the same thickness as the windshield.

Further the center glass extrusion on mine has a channel on the inside of the extrusion directly opposite the indicated channel for the locking strip.

What is further interesting on the center glass extrusion drawing, the slots for the windshields are different side to side. Further the slot for the windshield on the periphery gasket is different from the center gasket.

I think this need a little more research. I will be replacing both of my windshields nest month and will share what I find.

The metal vertical bar on mine can not be put in after the windshield in installed as it is longer than the opening in the fiberglass.

The nose periphery is metal, perhaps on newer models they have improved the installation. I love Barth lol

Up to about Oct of 86 Barth used metal for the front of the coaches. After that they switched to the fiberglass "eyebrow" front style which is thicker.
The middle strip on the later ones has a rubber spline in the front with a steel channel on the inside. I will roll the dice and try to get some shots through PhotoBucket.

This is the outside of the Monarch window. The Regal was similar with a single strip. There is a rubber spline.

As you can see the perimeter strip has shrunk and there is a gap to be caulked now.

(I sent an inside photo but it didn't make it to PB) head bang I give up. Dam PhotoBucket. Sent it twice now. head bang
Finally...

The inside has a steel strip about 3/8" wide in the rubber strip. The steel strip overlaps the perimeter strip on both top and bottom.

The last time I was able to get into the Nose I took a closer look at the windshield seals from the inside, I also have a meatal expander strip in the center seal and the outside seal is flat on the underside, glass to metal, I can not tell how it seals to the fiberglass nose.

Well my windshield issue is resolved. After much telephone time with Coach Glass in Oregon and hours on the web and this site regarding glass and gasket types, I chose this route:

Just re-centered the driver's side glass in its gasket and resealed with new urethane Dow Betaseal U-428 plus. All the pros I talked with did not recommend removal of gasket unless damaged or torn. Mine was actually very good. It is soft and supple but you need to pull the locking spline to really check it out.

Old urethane seal was broken with a simple metal hook tool. Vacuum handles moved the glass easily. Remove old urethane and silicone with plastic blade and another plastic tool shaped like a tongue depressor. Lay in new urethane, reinstall lock spline and clean up urethane ooze out with very soapy spray on window cleaner.

My gaskets-- perimeter and center are identical to Steve VW, although my Regency isn't a widebody. I have a metal extrusion in the center which the gasket wraps around. The metal is observable from thsomebody.

That's it. Kelly

Also thanks for your comments.

The only limiting issue is the type and thickness of the "lip" on which the windshield is mounted. I found no reason to chase an obsolete rubber gasket when my glass vendor can use an off the shelf modern gasket by matching the thickness of the "lip" and then sealing with urethane. He is using Freightliner material on my Euro.

I may need to redo my Nose, thought I would try it myself, but maybe I will get it done, about what is the cost Jim? Mine is not leaking but the PO really made a mess out of the Urethane he used I sliced a lot of it away, looks better but could be fixed. Thanks
