MCC Front Brake Master Cylinder
There are two of these on the MCC chassis. One for the front one for the rear they are identical and are located between the fuel tank and the front steering linkage. They are made by Bendix and have been in use since about 1975. As of now they are listed as obsolete. I am trying to locate a rebuild kit for them which is part #289286. They consist of a "rotochamber" which is connected to a more common looking hydraulic master cylinder and are reffered to by Bendix as an "Intensifier",the reason being that this unit increases 100 psi of air to 1700 psi of hydraulic pressure. The model number is AH4 Type 36.
Here are some pics.
When mounted in the coach this would be the drivers side (of the drivers side reservoir)and the white switch is the overtravel (or low fluid) warning indicator

This is also the drivers side and the hydraulic reservoir

This is towards the center of the coach and is the end of the rotochamber.

This would be a view (if it was viewable) from the front of the Barth and shows the two units as bolted together.

This would be a view (if viewable) from the rear of the coach and shows the mounting brackets and both parts as bolted together.

I will send Bill N.Y. the service data sheets I have found for this unit, they include rebuild instructions (not for the squemish) maybe this could help someone in the future, or get ahold of me and lets see what I can remember by then...

I ordered it today after talking with Bendix tech support... finditparts could not verify the contents of the package but Bendix Brake Advice Center (1-800-247-2725) assured me the compensation valve and wagon-wheel gasket are included in that part #'s package so I ordered it...
Thanks for the "link"....

Shoot a couple of pics when you have it all apart….some of us like pictures of mechanical ‘guts’. Lets us know what is coming for us to enjoy in the future!

OK Chris... Here is an update.... I got the kit that Bill NY found for me and it included all of the hydraulic parts needed including a new piston, BUT it did NOT have any of the rotochamber parts... Anyway I decided to rebuild it myself due to time and money constraints and here are some photos of the progress..

This pic shows the components of the overtravel switch which I broke and was not included in the kit (duh)... This would be commonly known as the "Low Level" switch which lights a light on your dash...

This is a pic of the overtravel switch after it was rebuilt by me...

This pic shows the kit and ALL the components that were included for a mere $168 with shipping..

This pic shows the "guts" of the Master Cylinder after being broken down...

And finally this one was earlier this evening after alot of cleaning, sanding, sandblasting etc. while the paint was drying...

I'll put up a couple more of the assembled unit after I put it together... I hope to have it installed tomorrow as it is gonna be our last near-warm day in Mich. After seeing all the "gunk" in this thing I am concerned about the rear MC now.... I'll try to bleed that as best I can tomorrow also...

Of course with all the GUNK that came out of that MC I decided to flush out the brake lines also...
That seemed like a good idea until I broke off a bleeder screw.... UHOH, Now I'll have to remove the caliper? NO, My friend came over and we tried easy-outs and all that with no luck... He went home and came back with a welder and WELDED a 9/16" nut onto what was left of the bleeder screw from INSIDE of the nut... I had never heard of that idea but it sounded better then pulling the caliper... We did have to take the wheel off (a job in itself) but it WORKED and here it what it looked like (blurry I know but best I could do)

Here is the MC after installation.....

This one gives you an idea of the location, you can see the front passenger tire and the rusty old rear master cylinder right next to the rebuilt one....

This is a pic of the "air regulator" there are three lines; 1:From compressor, 2: From Master Cylinder, 3: From the brake treadle (pedal).. The further you push the pedal the more pressure is allowed into the rotochamber to apply pressure to the hydrualic side of the MC.. There are also two of theese; Front, Rear..

And finally for Bill NY here is a picture of Cudji or Cat Cat, dosent really matter what you call her she'll come if she feels like it...

Patch, NICE WORK - you must be getting ready to head south. Is the rig all back together? Looking forward to next week's adventure.

I'm not sure yet if we can make it Corey.... I'm trying but still need to bleed both front and rear then test out my oil problem "bandaid" before I get to far from home (and the tools)...
I'd sure like to be there it sounds like alot of fun and no matter the weather I know it'll be better then Michigan's.....

Well, here's hoping you can make it. The weather is looking great for the gathering this year, 80s and sunny. I know Mich is a long haul, but remember it's all downhill and if your lucky you might get stuck here Wink
