That's a good one. Three layers. Covers the solenoid well, too. It is more important to shield the solenoid than the starter.

The wiring going to the solenoid often needs a little love, too.

Thanks Bill, you are my hero. Parts came in this morning. Made it to Lakeland Fl without further incident. 6 miles per gallon at 60 MPH. Good thing gas is cheap right now. The part is actually made by Mr. Gasket. Starter Motor Heat Shield #3678. www.mrgasket.com

Slight drift - We bought a mini starter to replace the OE GM starter. When we took long trips we would stop to fill up & then try to start but got nothing. Then we found out recently about the belleville washer/nut go here to read about it

& think that may have been all we needed. BTW I have 2 GM belleville washers that didn't fit my mini starter if anyone has this same problem with their GM starter I'll send you one or both. We have not had any problems with our mini starter & I wanted to plug the company we bought it from. The reason we chose them is because I liked their motto "test don't guess". Our fearless leader BillNY has said this many times so it was a no brainer for us. They were also VERY helpful with lots of electrical questions I had. Their website
