We plan to use the Barth for the races but I am concerned about using the roof as a viewing platform. I have always been leery of getting on the roof of RV's but they were not Barths...
Should I consider re-inforcing, ie Diamond Plate or some other method.
I was also concerned with adding that extra weight up there.

How many heavy weights should I limit at a time on the roof without modifications.
I was thinking 2 race fans / 500lbs....
As always your opionion is appreciated.

Ray:

I have used the roof on our 35 for the last 5 years at all the races we attend.

I have had 4 people up there, but that's about the limit for safety sake.

We bought some 60" X 36" rubber bottomed mats to put the chairs on so as not to mess up the roof coating and everyone has to wear soft sole shoes.

One of these days we plan to have an aluminum platform built with fold down safety rails.

I think I'd cover some 1/2" plywood sections with foam and use them as a temporary floor.

I am not sure about load rating but loading should follow normal rules.
span the trusses and distribute the load
I don't know the distance between the support tubes for the roof but it should be easy enough to sound them out by tapping.
I might want to span the distance with something ridgid but light, perhaps 1" to 2" aluminum sq.tube screwed to Rusty's plywood in 4' and 6'x2' sections. This would keep weight and size down but by staggering and interlocking you would have a 4'x10' dance floor that could be stored in the basement. If you want to maximize the use of the two sheet of plywood then don't stagger and go for the bigger dance floor.

The structure is strong, but the rivets holding the roof skin to the radius skin are not.

Locate the structure under the roof skin, and mark the location of the I channels.

Try to walk on the structure or on boards resting on the structure.

Do not walk on unsupported skin or (particularly) the skin between the seam where the radius begins and the underlying structure. The force will pull the rivets loose sooner or later.

Does anyone know whether Regencies have thicker roof skin than Regals and Breakaways.

For short term , I will go the plywood route until I can install a more appropiate long term platform... Maybe I can permanently mount a couch up there. Big Grin
Thanks again.
