Some slight progress on the towable Aircave.

Pics document the start.

Little helper:

Check out the grass border. Should go well with the "Route 66" theme. I need more license plates, I'll pay shipping if you have any.

Any ideas? Comments?

There will be some kind of raisable awning that seals back down on the top portion of the roof and perhaps barn doors on the bottom. The intent is to be able to seal it up for transport.

Corey, a hole like that is going to be a challange to keep clean and dry at 60 mph on the highway. If I were going to do it I would frame out an aluminum door with a giant piano hinge across the top. Have it open like a gull wing door and you would have a canope over the opening to keep the inside dry while the door was open. You would definitely have to reinforce the door opening. As I replace stuff on my airstream I may have some things you can use. I'll let you know. Are you going to have any appliances inside?

Doug,

You and I do think alike. I'm going to craft a half gullwing door on the top, with two swinging barn doors on the bottom. That way the top won't be too heavy to lift. If you look close you can see the natural break on the aluminum on the side, the doors will meet there.

I'm not putting any appliances except a bar sink maybe. Hey, it's a Mancave, we don't need no stinkin appliances.

The whole thing should be a tribute to the bygone era of cars and travel around the country in the 50s

Mancave, eh? way cool! Will it have room for the back seat of a '60 Chevy?

I would say a big affirmative, lots of room. I'm thinking maybe a few bunk beds in the rear for the grankids to have an overnight club house, but the entire front will be dedicated to smoking cigars, drinkin beer and discussin the finer points of cars, bikes, RVs and women.

Sorry women, it is NOT a girlcave even though she's a she.

It will have to be one of those old Coca-Cola coolers that open from the top, with the long neck bottles you slide to the end and out the gate! (Or maybe the old standby: a horse trough/pickup truck fulla ice.)

But then again, a soda fountain/beer tap bar motif would work with a keg... so many choices! A round screen black/white TV with rabbit ears... Bakelite plastic radio... satellite clock?

Would you believe I have two of those coolers, a Junior and the double door. Saved from a collection I had twenty years ago. Don't know if Id dare leave them outside as they are valuable now.

Two of them? You continue to amaze me.
Do not leave them outside! For what they're worth I'd be tempted to steal them myself. Big Grin

For most of the last 20 years they've been inside my house in NH. We sold that last year, so now they are in storage. I may just put one in the manstream, but chain it down to resist any temptation. Never had a thing touched here, but why take chances?

Who would want to steal Bud Lite? or any lite beer as far as that goes. Yuengling Lager would be a much better choice. America's oldest brewery. In operation since 1829. I'd help Doug pilfer that. cheers
