I sure do like the 2 stroke diesel, but it is too big for most state and National campgrounds. Had to vote NO. If I had two or three camping vehicles, it would be yes, but I would not trade.
Cheers

You like the DD so it keeps the aft portions oiled up so they don't rust? Big Grin Before this I would look at the available Bluebirds, you might find a DD puller so it had rust prevention all the way back. ROTFLMAO

Prior to the breakaway I had a 55 GMC surban conversion. It leaked when bought. but while working on a radar tracking station observed an inline 6-71 turbo on the emergency generator and upgraded the 55 model. results were no leaks, no drips on parking spaces. BUT I never miss it after getting the breakaway- much nicer, drives almost as good, gets almost as good fuel mileage, and while the shower is a little cramped it is almost as livable and with 4' less length and nearly 1/2 the weight much easier to maneuver and park. But the jimmeys can be made not to leak with some work and regular maintenance. No way would I want this one but would trade this one as it will sell for twice what a breakaway would cost, and then I could replace this one with the best available.

It appears that older SOBs are not that popular for Barth replacements. Recent experience indicates Barth buyers will go to Foretravel for another coach. Tom, Nick, Mark, etc. in just the last couple years. hmm

71 series diesels are becoming obsolete, very dirty compared to newer designs. Parts are available and they will be around another 50 years, though. Mechanic

Bubba had a 2stroke in his Barth. This Barth has the longer stroke 92 series. I like the sound and the power of the 2 stroke Detroit Diesel with a turbo.
A gentleman staying in Zephyrhills, Florida had a 8V92 in his 1988 Prevost. His home was in Prince Edward Island, Canada. His 2 stroke was clean. Mounted on rails he could pressure wash the 2 stroke every summer at home in Canada.
A friend here in Ohio has a fire truck with a very clean 6V71. Low miles so it is not greasy.

Actually, the Detroit 2 strokes had superchargers. (Roots blowers) They were driven by the engine gear train...

That said, the boost was very low... they were set up more as scavenging pumps than for boost. About 2 psi or so. Still, compared to natural aspiration there is better performance. Biggest power boost was from firing every revolution. (2 stroke) and they do sound cool Mechanic
