1986 Mallard Motorhome
We just purchased a 1986 Mallard that basically needs total restoration. Previous owner got it totally gutted but bought all new cabinets and some appliances but never had any time to work on it...now it's my turn. I'm basically starting from scratch and I want to know where I can get schematics for the electrical and plumbing. Any guide in the right direction would help tremendously, thank you in advance.

Congratulations entering the world of orphan motorhomes!

(It would be helpful to know what chassis/engine you have...) We have some info on the GM 454 P chassis and some Gillig and Spartan diesel pushers but info on your coach itself will be limited to whatever appliances you have in common. (Dometic ACs and refrigerators, Onan generators, etc.)

Try the search feature on this site. We have some good archived materials that may help.

Good luck.

The chassis is a Chevy with a 454(7.4 L). Judging by the VIN # I believe it's a P 37.

Good. We have a fair amount of info on the GM stuff, as I can attest. (My previous Barth was an 86.) We have service manual, schematics and several threads on service.

Do a search for my threads (Steve VW) on brakes, engine, etc (My 454HO engine swap thread is over 50,000 views now!)

Let me know if I can help.

Years ago I posted a hand drawn schematic of the wiring system for a dual battery house, single battery start, with a generator, converter, and isolator. It helped me a lot on the Euro and might help others with this setup. I just don't know how to find it now and as I am still a working man I don't have time [or the patience] to try to get it on PB to repost.

I ran a search for that post but it appears the link has been lost. It was back in 2005. Frowner

Thanks Steve, I've downloaded the P30 Service manual (all 3 parts). Looking to put a new converter in as well asap. Haven't searched for that subject yet,but I'm sure there's something useful here somewhere.

Good! I am glad you could use it. It took a while to scan but it has over 27,000 views now so I guess it was worth it! (I left out some parts that did not pertain to motorhomes.)

I have installed 3 Progressive Dynamics convertors in the past few years, 2 40 amps and 1 60 amp unit. They seem to work well. I leave them plugged in all the time and I have never had to add water to the batteries.

I have seen only one Mallard coach so far, around 28 ft long. Looks like a pretty nice coach. Good luck with yours! Thumbs Up
