I recently suffered from an extreme case of it myself. It all started on a recent trip, when I noticed a puddle of water under the coach. The puddle was under the compartment where the hot water heater and water manifold is located. It took quite awhile to find the leak because it was actually on the opposite side of the coach. The 3” pipe had broken at the toilet flange and was running all the way across the coach on the floor of the compartment containing both holding tanks and the fresh water tank.. The fix should be easy and straight forward. A new flange, a 2” piece of 3” PVC, and a rubber coupling would be all the parts needed. Total cost about $15.00. Then it got a little more complicated. The wife said while you have that toilet out why don’t we replace it with a new high rise model. A call to PPL and a new Thetford Series II high rise is on the way. Then it got really MORE COMPLICATED. While waiting on delivery of the new toilet, the wife mentioned how bad she hated having carpet in the toilet area. I had to agree, carpet is not a good choice of flooring for that area. A previous owner had replaced the flooring in the Shower, kitchen, and lounge areas with a cheap laminate flooring at some time in the past. The installation was not great and water in the shower and kitchen areas was causing some buckling. So as you can see, the “might as wells” and the “while I’m at it” cost a little more time and money than the original $15.00 estimate.      Nick |
